In an enchanting blend of artistry and emotion, Cape Ballet Africa is set to unveil a compelling programme of short works, aptly named Intermezzo, at the intimate Drama Factory.
Running from 16 to 25 May, this production offers a gentle yet cathartic experience, showcasing the talent of a company that has quickly made a name for itself, following a spectacular debut at the Artscape Opera House earlier this year.
Intermezzo will take audiences on a journey through the heart of classical ballet, featuring the beloved compositions of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The programme will highlight exquisite pieces from iconic ballets such as The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and The Nutcracker. With a suite of Tchaikovsky's most cherished melodies at its core, Cape Ballet Africa aims to create a visual and aural spectacle that profiles its stunning artists in a captivating as well as a heartfelt performance.
Adding a unique narrative layer to the performance, the production draws inspiration from the celebrated prose poem Desiderata by Max Ehrmann. South African choreographers have crafted a series of choreographic works that breathe new life into this stirring text, resonating deeply with audiences as it is narrated by renowned actor Marcel Meyer. This combination of evocative choreography and powerful narration promises to strike a chord and evoke profound reflection among the attendees.
The production schedule is designed to offer flexibility to patrons, with performances on 16, 17, 23 and 24 May at 19:30; matinees on 17 and 24 May at 15:00; and additional afternoon shows on 18 and 25 May at 16:00. Tickets are affordably priced at R280, with a discounted rate of R260 available for groups of four, making it an ideal outing for families and friends.
For those looking to enjoy top-quality entertainment in a cosy, welcoming atmosphere, the Drama Factory provides the perfect setting. Its fully licensed bar complements the experience, ensuring that audiences can relax and revel in the enchanting performances. Moreover, with a solar-powered inverter in place, guests can rest assured that the show will go on, regardless of load-shedding disruptions.
