Johannesburg – In the run up to the 1998 World Cup in France – for which South Africa had qualified – kwaito group TKZee decided to partner with Benni McCarthy to create a soundtrack for the Bafana Bafana’s campaign and the lead track to the group’s new album.

Both TKZee an Benni were at thei height of their careers and the track named “Shibobo” was an instant hit.

Wikipedia discribes it thus: “Sales of the single topped the 100,000 mark in just over a month in South Africa, making “Shibobo” the fastest and biggest selling CD single by TKZee or any other South African recording artist. The song was also a hit in other African music charts.”

In the earkly hours of Thursday morning, McCarthy announced his decision to retire after 17 years in the game.
