Palo Alto, California - Two weeks after surgery, previously conjoined twin girls are preparing to leave a California hospital - each in their own car seat.

Angelina and Angelica Sabuco have been recovering at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University since their November 1 operation.

The hospital said on Monday that the girls are doing well and should be able to return to their San Jose home by the end of the week.

The girls' mother says in a written statement that her daughters are sleeping in separate beds, eating their favourite foods and learning to walk again.

The nearly 10-hour surgery was paid for by the Sabuco family's health insurance.
