Cape Town - The body of a fisherman was retrieved off Elands Bay in the Western Cape after a boat capsized on Tuesday, the NSRI said.
“The body of 30-year-old Cheslyn Africa, from St Helena Bay, was located and recovered today from the sea,” National Sea Rescue Institute spokesman Craig Lambinon said.
Africa had been missing after the small fishing boat, crewed by him and two fellow fishermen, capsized on Tuesday.
One of the fishermen arrived at a police station reporting that he had swum ashore after the boat capsized around 100m off-shore, Lambinon said.
“The man reported that his fellow fisherman, a 30-year-old, had been swimming to shore with him but had turned around to try to swim back to the capsized boat after getting tired.”
The third man, a skipper, remained on the upturned hull of the capsized boat. Lambinon said the skipper was later found safe ashore.
“He reported that he had decided to also swim ashore and that the 30-year-old had not returned to the boat and was now missing.”
Africa's body was handed to forensic pathology services.
