Durban - A man believed to be 48 years old was gunned down while seated in his vehicle outside the oThongathi Home Affairs offices on Wednesday afternoon.

Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said the driver of a silver Toyota Corolla was shot multiple times on Maharaj Street in Metcalf.

Balram said a Rusa member was on patrol in the area when he was flagged down by a passer-by at approximately 1.39pm.

“On arrival at the scene, the officer discovered a 48-year-old male slumped in the driver’s seat of his vehicle,” he said.

He said the man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body and paramedics declared him dead on arrival at the scene.

“According to witnesses, the hitmen fled in a white Ford Ranger (registration unknown),” he said.

Balram added that several 9mm spent cartridges were recovered at the scene.
