Durban – Alfred Duma municipality mayor Zama Sibisi has called on residents in Ladysmith to help the police to track down the perpetrators responsible for a shooting at a tavern on Saturday, where two people were killed.

Sibisi said the Alfred Duma Local Municipality wanted the law to take its course following the shootings that took place at Blue Waters at Peace Town/MOBA area in ward 15.

“As the municipality we are deeply shocked and saddened to learn about this evil act where members of our community were killed.”

Sibisi added that they urged law enforcement to swiftly find the culprits.

“We as a municipality wish to urge the public to cooperate with the police in reporting information that will lead to the arrest of criminals.”

Sibisi also said that tavern owners should take the necessary security measures to keep their businesses safe.

“We must work hand in hand in curbing this brutal killing of people from our communities.

“As the municipality we wish to convey our condolences and sympathies to the families affected by this incident.”

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said Ladysmith police were investigating two counts of murder after two gunmen walked into a tavern and opened fire at the patrons.

“Two men aged between 29 and 30 were declared dead on the scene.”
