CAPE TOWN -

From next week, Clicks clinics across the country will offer Covid-19 antibody tests with results available in 15 minutes.

A number of companies have received licenses to import the tests and will be distributing them in South Africa.

“This is not a Covid-19 test. The test is aimed at anyone who suspects they may have contracted the virus, even though they did not show symptoms,” said Clicks chief commercial officer, Rachel Wrigglesworth.

“The tests are aimed at consumers who are wanting to determine whether they have built up any Covid-19 antibodies,” she said.

Wrigglesworth added that customers who want to know whether they have an active case of coronavirus would need to undergo the widely-used reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction, or PCR tests.

Meanwhile, Dis-Chem has taken the laboratory route with tests results available within 24 to 48 hours.
