CAPE TOWN- Specialist Physician and Pulmonologist from Melomed Gatesville, Dr Bilal Gafoor, has described his experience in the Covid-19 frontline as "challenging, heartbreaking and humbling".
Gafoor, who has been practising at Melomed since 2013, says, in particular, one of the most heartbreaking moments has been treating and caring for colleagues that he has worked with for many years.
"It was difficult when a colleague passed away due to Covid-19 under my care on life support," he said.

Gafoor says he has not been infected with Covid-19, and while he follows a specific routine to try and minimize his exposure, he says it is inevitable he will get the virus at some point.
"At the level of the patient it has been challenging because the interaction with the patient is very different in comparison to a normal consultation. Particularly because of the personal protective equipment that one needs to wear," he said.
