South African Brandy the best in the world

Paarl Brandy producer, KWV has received 3 more awards at the New York International Spirits Competition.

Close to 600 spirits from around the world were submitted and reviewed by a panel of expert trade buyers, with products awarded based on their performance.

Spirits are also reviewed by country, and the best categories and products in each are identified and awarded accordingly.

In the South African class, KWV won ‘Brandy of the Year’ in three categories: KWV 20-Year-Old Potstill Brandy was named ’20 Year Brandy of the Year’, KWV Laborie Alambic was named ‘5 Year Brandy of the Year’ and KWV Imoya was named ‘3 Year Brandy of the Year’.

KWV also secured an International Silver Medal for it's 15-Year-Old Potstill brandy.

Earlier this year KWV made history for securing the prestigious title of World’s Best Brandy & Cognac Producer for the second year running at the International Spirit Challenge, as well as World’s Best Brandy for its KWV 15-Year-Old Alambic Potstill Brandy.

It also received four Gold medals for KWV 20-Year-Old, KWV 15-Year-Old, KWV Imoya and KWV Alambic brandies at the same competition, widely regarded as the most influential spirits competition in the world.

Stellenbosch brandy distillery Van Ryn’s clinched two international awards at the seventh annual edition of the global competition, which takes place in the heart of New York City.

The South Africa 12-Year Brandy of the Year was awarded to the Van Ryn’s Distillers Reserve 12-Year-Old, while the South Africa 15-Year Brandy of the Year went to older sibling the Van Ryn’s Fine Cask Reserve 15-Year-Old.

The two brandies also won a Silver and Gold award respectively. Distell stablemate, the 18-year-old Oude Meester Souverein was awarded Gold.

 

This is not the end. It’s just the beginning. Celebrate the new month with a glass of Soverein.
