If early mornings aren't your thing but you love a good party, there's a new trend that might just change the way you start your day.
Picture this: you walk into your usual coffee spot expecting a quiet caffeine fix, and instead, you're met with thumping music, a live DJ, and a room full of people dancing their way into the day.
Welcome to the world of coffee raves. A feel-good fusion of espresso, beats, and community that’s turning morning routines on their heads.
The movement first gained traction in cities like Amsterdam, London, and New York.
Now, it's found its way to South Africa, where locals are enthusiastically joining in on the pre-work party.
TikTok creator Phano Liphoto recently posted about his first coffee rave experience at Nice Cafe in Cape Town.
“So what is a coffee rave? People are now starting to party before work over coffee,” he explains in his video.
Speaking to IOL, Liphoto described the event as “quite exciting,” especially since it was the first of its kind in Cape Town.
“I think every coffee rave has something unique about it. In this case, they served free cupcakes, all coffee was free before 8 am, and there was a live DJ. The rest of the event was socialising, networking, and mostly discussing how the coffee rave is such a great concept!” he says.
Though it was a debut event for Nice Cafe, the turnout exceeded expectations, even with just a week's notice to plan.
“So our timing on punting it and getting it out there was such a small window. But people arrived and we had an absolute blast for 90 minutes,” said Dylan from Nice Cafe.
“We want to give people the best start to their day and if we can go above and beyond by making something really special, why not. We are all about community and good vibes,” he adds.
Due to the overwhelming response, Nice Cafe is planning a follow-up rave on May 15, with plans to host coffee raves on the first Thursday of each month going forward.
