Award-winning singer and rapper, Sjava, has set his eyes on the internationally acclaimed fashion event, the Met Gala.

Sharing on his official X account, the “Uyena” hit maker shared that he will be making his debut at the prestigious event next year.

“Definitely attending the Met Gala next year ngiyobagqilaza ngengezo nkabi (I’m going to show up with the most stunning traditional wear),” he said.

The 41-year-old singer and rapper is among the known celebrities in SA for embracing their IsiZulu culture.

Be it music videos or public appearances, you will find Sjava wearing an outfit that consists of a pinch of IsiZulu in it.

This year's Met Gala witnessed a notable presence of South African creativity, with both designers and celebrities gracing the event's blue carpet.

Thebe Magugu dressed Aurora James and Ivy Getty in nude and brown pleated robes, paired with pleated skirts as well as a headpiece, while David Tlale dressed Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe in a cream and gold suit that is an off-shoulder neckline and was paired with 70s bell-bottom pants

The highly anticipated Met Gala took place on Monday, 5 May, and we got to see the stunning outfits on the blue carpet, which was filled with daffodils.

This fundraising event is hosted annually on the first Monday of May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York, co-chaired by Anna Wintour.

Celebrities like Tyla, Nomzamo Mbatha, Nicki Minaj, Teyana Taylor, Doechi and Rihanna stepped out and showed off their designer outfits, which adhered to the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme, which was all about celebrating 300 years of black fashion and dandyism across the African diaspora.
