Salt Lake City - Christian activists have protested over the availability of free condoms inside the Olympic Village.

Two protesters showed up for yesterday's demonstration in Salt Lake City, site of next month's Winter Olympics. They disagreed with the organising committee's decision to stock the village with 12 000 condoms.

The Olympics should be about "virtues, like the spirit of unity and sportsmanship, not recreational sex, not even safe sex", said Brandi Swindell, director of Generation Life, a diverse group from Boise, Idaho.

A committee spokesperson said: "We consider it a good public health practice," adding that the International Olympic Committee doesn't require condoms to be stocked. - Sapa-AP
