Seoul - South Korea says it has agreed to hold Red Cross talks with North Korea on joint projects aimed at building goodwill between the sides.

North Korea had proposed that the Red Cross agencies from the two sides meet to discuss resuming a suspended joint tourism project and boosting co-operation at an industrial complex - both in North Korea.

South Korean Unification Ministry spokeswoman Lee Jong-joo said that South Korea has agreed to the talks in a message sent to the North on Wednesday.

The announcement came as military officers from the two Koreas prepared to meet at the border on Wednesday for a second straight day to lay the groundwork for higher-level defence talks aimed at easing tension on the Korean peninsula. - Sapa-AP
