IT HAS been over a year, yet the case against a high school principal and a teacher accused of attacking a pupil last year has been delayed yet again.

Meadowlands High School principal and SA Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) official Moss Senye and teacher Ofentse Phehle made a brief appearance in the Protea Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of serious assault.

The charges relate to an incident in February last year in which the pair are alleged to have assaulted a Grade 11 pupil, leaving him with a swollen cheek and bruises on his upper lip.

The pair pleaded not guilty and for every court appearance, there is a crowd of Sadtu members singing their praises outside in a show of support. Yesterday was no different. Close to a hundred members came out in support of their colleague.

The case was postponed until June 25, when the trial is expected to begin. – Vuyo Mkize
