Prosecutors will receive their occupation specific dispensation increases from the end of September, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Tlali Tlali said an agreement was reached on Tuesday between the department of justice and the various unions.

"OSD payments will be back dated from July 1, 2007 and will be paid out in two phases.

"The first phase will be paid from the start of the 2008 financial year in April until the end of September. The second phase will be paid from July 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008. This will be paid from October until December," he said.

The 10,5 percent wage increase also due to prosecutors would be gazetted this week and authorised soon. Tlali said that it was in the NPA's interests to ensure staff were happy.

Earlier this month the Public Servants Association declared a dispute with the NPA because prosecutors had been waiting for more than a year for their salary increases. - Sapa
